Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The main objective of this project was to identify and develop steels with good machining and forming performance for precision cold or warm forging applications. The machinability (drilling and turning tests) and forgeability (compression tests) of a series of conventional cold forging, free and enhanced machining, medium carbon and medium carbon microalloyed grades was established. These steels were examined in the as-hot rolled or annealed condition in the form of either turned or bright drawn bars.
