Increase of the proportion of continuous casting steel grades suitable for small casting sections

The following were investigated in order to increase the share of continuous casting in the production of small casting sections and their processing without intermediate shaping: - casting tests, as well as accompanying metallurgical and material-specific investigations of high-grade steels and special materials, which have not been mastered at all or only insufficiently from the point of view of production technology (tool steels, boron-alloyed special structural steels, martensitic and ferritic chrome steels, austenitic and austenitic-ferritic special materials); - systematic determination of the regularities and control of the core structure during solidification of high-grade alloy steels. The research work resulted, for example, in the introduction of a method for billet casting of boron-containing steels without a submerged nozzle, as well as in starting production of continuous cast tool steels up to 1.4% C and hot work steels with 5 to 8% Cr.
