Abstract

This report describes part of the verification phase of CATHARE in the framework of the European Community shared cost action programme. CATHARE is an advanced thermal hydraulics code for the best estimated simulation of PWR loss of coolant accidents (large or small break, primary or secondary circuit), and operational transients. It provides a means for safety analysis and for the definition of accident and post-accident operational procedures. In addition, it has been transposed to become the numerical kernel of a simulator. Four LOBI tests were analysed by CATHARE: a natural circulation test (LOBI A2-77A), an intermediate break (LOBI B-R1M) and two large break tests (LOBI B-101 and LOBI B-222). The aim of the analysis was to check the ability of the code to predict the physical phenomena observed in an integral test facility. Sensitivity calculations were also performed in order to identify the parameters which most affect the accuracy of the predictions.
