Fission product chemistry in severe nuclear reactor accidents
A specialists' meeting was held at JRC-Ispra in January 1990 to review the current understanding of fission-product chemistry during severe accidents in light water reactors. Discussions focussed on the important chemical phenomena that could occur in a damaged nuclear plant. Recommendations were put forward for future work in the areas of fuel degradation and fission-product release, transport and attenuation processes in the reactor coolant system and containment chemistry (iodine behaviour and core-concrete interactions).
