A method for the automatic rezoning of 2-D Lagrangian codes for ICF implosions
A new rezoning method is described, suitable for quadrilateral zone, Lagrangian codes for ICF implosions. It has been included in the 2-D, two-temperature laser fusion code DUED which can simulate the entire implosion (including collapse and burn) of certain ICF targets. The method is based on discrete, occasional rezoning, which is performed only a few times during the simulation of a given problem. This new method allows for a certain degree of mesh adaptation and, at least in some applications, for interface discrimination. Its validation is based mainly on experience, rather than on the completion of adequate benchmarks. Possible improvements include the introduction of a better switching criterion, a method for dealing with highly distorted interfaces and higher order remapping schemes.
