Abstract

An exploratory programme of core drilling confirmed the location of a major fault with a 50-m throw and 70 dip and provided geological reference sections. These data enabled the planning and construction of a measurement array of boreholes for the geophysical and hydrogeological characterisation of the fault. Full details are given of the design, drilling, coring, completion and surveying of the 22 boreholes. The geological sequence is described, together with the structure of the fault zone, penetrated by eight boreholes.
