Spectrometric measurement of the hydrogen and deuterium ion species mix from the multi-megawatt ion sources (PINI) of the TEXTOR neutral particle injectors NI-1 and NI-2
Knowledge of the mix of ion species is the basis for accurate interpretation of heating effects and of the balance of particles when neutrals are injected into the TEXTOR plasma. In this project, ion species percentages for hydrogen and deuterium beams of the neutral particle injectors NI-1 and NI-2 in TEXTOR were determined. Two grating spectrometers were specially designed and built at IPP, having a focal length of 500 mm and a spectral resolution of 0.76 Angstroms with an entrance slit of 50 microns. To illuminate the spectrometers, a powerful three-lens light-guidance system for the injectors was constructed and set. On analysis of the measurements, the following species percentages were established for a particle energy of approximately 55 keV, with beam currents of 87 A for hydrogen and 63 A for deuterium: H(+) : H(2)(+) : H(3)(+) = 67.1% : 24.5% : 8.4% D(+) : D(2)(+) : D(3)(+) = 69.1% : 23.8% : 7.1%
