Studies on the production of nitrogen oxides and ash deposition from pulverised coal, in relation to utilisation in low NO(x) burners
The objectives of this project were to obtain information on the properties of coal which influence NOx formation and the efficiency of utilisation in low NOx burners, and to investigate ash deposition from a number of coals. This final report covering the two year contract, gives results of devolatilisation, char combustion and ash deposition testwork. The ash deposition studies formed a minor proportion of the programme. A drop tube furnace, installed prior to the contract, was used for most of the testwork. During the contract the furnace was modified to allow gas temperatures of up to 1500 C to be achieved.
