Abstract

The objective of this program was to develop a portable micro-computer based simulation system to assess the techno-economic viability of various competing coal liquefaction process technologies. The user is guided through the following stages in the evaluation of a process: - the preparation of the process flow diagram; - the addition of technical data to the process; - the preparation of a compound database; - the calculation of the process material balance; - the preparation of a utilities database; - the calculation of the utilities and fuels usages; - the preparation of a cost database; - the calculation of process and utilities capital costs and - the economic evaluation of the process. Where possible, and appropriate, the calculation routines within the programs use standard generic chemical engineering formulae, to ensure that the programs are suitable for simulating the widest possible range of processes.
