A new problem-solving strategy for global environmental issues
Global environmental issues present new tasks and challenges for science. This paper articulates a new scientific method, one that is neither value-free nor ethically neutral. Its results are known as "post-normal science". The method assesses and expresses the quality of scientific information in terms of its characteristic uncertainties. It is particularly relevant to global-scale, long term, policy-related research.
