Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

In many branches of science, particularly in the environmental sciences, there is an increasing need for the statistical treatment and evaluation of data. The structuring, interpretation and evaluation of complex databases by multivariate analysis is one area where such interest has become manifest. In this context, the present volume reviews the state of the art in multivariate analysis and gives an overview of the various fields of application in ecology, environmental chemistry, toxicology, risk analysis and structure-activity relationship studies. The introductory part of the book focusses on fundamental aspects of multivariate analysis. It is followed by a number of case studies which display the application of the various basic methods, such as principal component analysis, correspondence factor analysis, discriminant analysis and neural networks.
