Checking the numerical values of meteorological measurements is necessary because of the enormous quantity of data treated and also because some parameters, such as atmospheric pressure, cannot be linked with human sensations easily. At the Ispra Meteorological Observatory several FORTRAN computer codes are used to examine the long sequences of data, using the Amdhal computer. The advantages of these programs, which give a rapid indication of incorrect measurements, due either to instrument failure or to incorrect processing, are illustrated.
