Test of in situ measurements of atmospheric aerosols and trace gases by long path transmission spectroscopyFunded under: JRC-ENVPROT 4C
Determinations of the mean diameter and of the number concentration of atmospheric aerosol particles using long path transmission measurements are presented. The measurements were performed with a commercial DOAS system at a beam path length of 729 m. The results are compared with measurements performed by a Differential Mobility Particle Sizer (DMPS) and an 8 stage Low Pressure Impactor (LPI). The use of the commercial DOAS system allows simultaneous measurement of the trace gas concentrations and aerosol parameters in the same air volume, to provide information on possible interactions between gas phase and liquid phase atmospheric chemistry, as in fog or cloud.
