Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The major constraints which impede the development of EDI result from the great influence in legislation, regulations or commercial practice of requirements for paper-based or handwritten signed documents. The European Community launched the TEDIS programme in 1988, with the aim of ensuring the development of EDI in Europe. One of the programme's activities involves the examination of legal questions related to EDI. Others concern the security of messages, telecommunications, standardisation and coordination between sectors. The activities carried out within the framework of TEDIS are presented.
