Harmonization of NDT standards within the European Economic Community
The CEC has given mandates to the European standardisation bodies such as CEN to draw up standards for Community purposes, aiming to harmonise the existing national regulations, to eliminate barriers to trade, and to promote the Single Market. The working of the Technical Boards and Technical Committees responsible for the preparation of new standards is described. Prenormative activities, particularly within the Framework programmes, are outlined, as far as these relate to non-destructive testing. The work of the two technical committees mainly concerned, TC138 and TC121, are reviewed to date.
