Abstract

The Finite Element (FE) modelling of the coupled field-structure interaction effects in the presence of transient electromagnetic phenomena is investigated. Different approaches to the electromagnetic-mechanical coupling are proposed and examined. The numerical assessment of simple models (benchmark cases) for the verification and the validation of the related computational methodologies is presented. Some applications of 3D transient magneto-structural analysis concerning advanced magnetic devices for energy production, such as tokamaks, are described. Finally, the actual needs for the development of an integrated design and analysis environment are examined.
