Abstract

A study of a reinforced concrete building structure (assemblage of shearwalls, coupled walls and frames) subjected to earthquake loading is reported. The study consisted primarily of the nonlinear analysis of a structure designed using Eurocode No. 8 (EC8) assuming a high ductility (ductility class `H'). A stochastic model of the seismic action was assumed as the input for the nonlinear analysis and the structure was modelled by beam elements assumed to have nonlinearity described by Takeda type relations concentrated at the ends. The response, quantified in terms of displacements, interstorey drifts and ductility demand, was compared with the EC8 provisions.
