Abstract

The following physical effects of neutron irradiation are examined: nuclear transmutation, induced radioactivity and gas production. These phenomena are not dependent on the structure of the irradiated material and are, therefore, the easiest ones to describe and simulate with a computer model. The main features of a code for the analysis of neutron induced transmutation and activation (A.N.I.T.A.) are described. The code, although designed for general purpose use, is now provided with a cross-sections and decay data library, developed in view of the application to fusion technology. Some examples of the application of the code to fusion reactor irradiation scenarios are presented.
