Directive 80/778 relates to the quality of water either supplied directly for human consumption or used in the manufacture of food and drink, other than natural mineral or medicinal waters. Difficulties in the implementation of the Directive, or in compliance with it, are identified and explained. Particular problems with limits set for pesticides are analysed. These difficulties involve research aspects, the operation and management of water resources and legislative administrative procedures. Solutions adopted for particular problems in one country are still little known in other countries and there is still a great diversity of implementation and compliance between the various Member States.
