Measurement of double differential (n,xalpha) cross sections of (nat)Ni, 58Ni, 60Ni, (nat)Cu, 63Cu and 65Cu in the 5 to 14 MeV neutron energy range
Alpha yield data by neutron irradiation of natural Ni, natural Cu and enriched single isotopes were measured. The neutron energy was varied from 5 to 10 MeV in steps of 0.5 MeV and a single energy point at 14 MeV. The prompt alpha particle production was measured simultaneously by five dE-dE-E telescopes, thus providing the angular yield distribution and the alpha particle energy spectrum. The alpha yield data of natural Ni and some of the natural Cu were measured relative to the elastic scattering cross-section of H, whereas the yield data of the samples with enriched isotopes were measured relative to the yield of 58Ni. The measured data were corrected for the energy loss in the sample and in the telescope. By integration of the double differential data over alpha particle energy and over emission angle, the total prompt alpha yield is obtained and compared with the ENDF/B-VI evaluation.
