Abstract

Micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography (MECC) was developed and refined for the analysis of major and modified nucleobases, nucleosides and nucleotides. The composition of buffering systems, electrophoretic conditions and dimensions of capillars were investigated in order to obtain best performances. Particular emphasis was placed on the identification of physiological constituents in nucleic acids and their chemically modified analogues. "In vitro" studies on calf thymus DNA exposed to genotoxic agents indicate that adducted bases and nucleotides can be identified by MECC.
