Abstract

The influence of radiation losses on plasma edge parameters in the TEXTOR tokamak was investigated. It is shown that the radiation can be expressed in terms of impurity fluxes rather than in terms of impurity densities by introducing a new parameter: the radiation potential, which is the ratio of radiated power to impurity fluxes. Experimental results for various plasma conditions are presented and compared with model calculations. The important influence of the coupling between the radiation potential and the electron temperature at the boundary on the behaviour of plasma edge parameters is demonstrated.
