The results of two years' research on the thermomechanics of clays are presented in two volumes. Volume 2 concerns the development and application of advanced constitutive modelling of the mechanical behaviour of clays, taking into account the extensive tests performed on Boom clay, reported in the first volume. The development concentrated on improving the prediction of the volumetric response of clay skeleton by improving the dilatancy prediction at low to high overconsolidation ratios, and modelling swelling effects. The work on the application consisted of interpreting the experimental results obtained for Boom clay, in order to calibrate a set of constants for numerical analyses.
