Results of an analysis of all data obtained in the EEC orifice plate programme under different installation conditions are presented. The programme was designed to test minimum straight length specifications for both the ISO 5167 and AGA Report No. 3 standards. Tests were carried out with flow straighteners in good flow conditions and also with upstream installations with and without straighteners. Many important trends are identified and discussed. It is concluded that the minimum straight length specifications in the standards are in urgent need of revision, and a possible method of achieving this is described.
