Production and smelting of SiO(2)-poor sinter
Reduction of slag accumulation is a means of lowering the energy consumption of a blast furnace. To achieve this, pellets or sinter with reduced matrix content are employed, but the sinter properties are then impaired. The aim of this project was to achieve a reduction in the SiO(2) content in sinter from about 6% to about 4.8%, whilst maintaining the sinter production rate. The effects on blast-furnacing of using sinter with reduced SiO(2) content were investigated, using a large and a small blast furnace.
