Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

Directive 76/160/EEC introduced procedures for monitoring the quality of bathing water in order to protect public health and safeguard the quality of the environment. It also called on the Commission to publish a report summarising the data submitted by the Member States. This report contains, for each Member State in 1989-90: - a summary of the principal parameters for bathing water and of any changes compared with the previous year, and - one or more maps showing the microbiological quality of bathing water in each district, based on coliform counts only. Overall, bathing water quality has improved slightly since 1988.
