Abstract

Eurocat (European registration of congenital anomalies and twins) is a concerted action of the EEC. This publication describes in detail 22 Eurocat registries, including population coverage, services available in the area, methods of data collection, and organisation of the registry. The primary aim of the publication is to serve as an aid to the interpretation of the results of surveillance from 1979 to 1990, as reported in Eurocat reports and other publications. A further aim is to help those who might be setting up registries in other areas to determine all the components necessary for a good registration system, and to consider the various ways of achieving their objectives.
