Abstract

This report summarises computational work by NEL and experimental data obtained by a large number of researchers on the effect of pipe roughness on orifice plates. The model for the effect of pipe roughness deduced from the computational work is validated by the experiments and is used to derive a discharge coefficient equation as a function of friction factor. Using the friction factor term of this equation and an expression for the uncertainty of the discharge coefficient equation adopted at New Orleans, pipe roughness limits for the New Orleans equation are calculated and tabulated.
