Patents as indicators of the utility of European Community R&D programmesFunded under: FP2-MONITOR
The study of patents as indicators of the utility of EC R&D programmes was designed to show the advantages and limitations of the use of such indicators. The research was carried out based on data from three EC R&D programmes: - medical and health research (AIDS, cancer and radioprotection); - BRITE (laser working and membranes), and - biotechnology (agro-related). The European Patent Office (EPO) data were used to derive a standard set of patent indicators against which the EC programmes' data were assessed.
