Abstract

The emission of the bremsstrahlung continuum from a plasma in the visible range can be used for the time- and space-resolved determination of the average ionic charge of the plasma, Z(eff). A diagnostic has been developed and tested on TEXTOR, based on this principle. First results indicate an increase and a peaking of Z(eff) during auxiliary heating.
