Abstract

The JRC has taken the initiative to design and develop a microwave signature laboratory which will be available for use by researchers and commercial customers. This new and unique European facility will complement air- and space-borne measurements by providing stable and reproducible environmental conditions and operational modes for highly controlled experiments. The JRC's Microwave Team has designed and constructed the electronic measurement system and the data recording and processing system of the laboratory. The installation of the mechanical and electro-mechanical components is in progress. The paper describes the objectives and potential of the facility in detail.
