Solar installations for heating domestic water supplies
The report describes the advantages and applications of solar systems to the heating of water for domestic use, and examines forced circulation and natural circulation systems in particular. A table is provided which sets out the points to be considered when selecting a system to fulfil requirements. The report identifies the data which must be gathered to determine the size and design of the collector for a water heater. A well designed solar water heater, for a family of 4/5, will require a storage tank with a capacity of 180 litres and a collector surface area of 3 m2 (i.e. a 60 litre storage tank for every m2 of solar collector surface area).
