The results of microstructural and tensile tests performed on Al-SiC particulate composites produced by a vacuum plasma spray co-deposition method are described. The tensile strength of the composites in the as-sprayed condition is of great interest, considering that it can be further improved by suitable thermomechanical treatments when free-standing bulk materials are required. Moreover, the deposits are also attractive for application in the as-sprayed state as coatings.
