Magnetization measurements on single crystals of NpAs-NpSe mixed compounds
By considering their properties separately, it is clear that mixed crystals of NpAs and NpSe should have interesting magnetic properties. Single crystals of NpAs with 5%, 10% and 15% of NpSe have been grown. From experimental results it seems that the magnetic order of these crystals at 4.2K is ferri- and not ferro-magnetic. The ferromagnetic exchange forces are enforced by the admixture of NpSe to NpAs. The net magnetic moment is reduced with increasing content of the chalcogen. It is concluded that exchange forces and moments depend critically on the electronic configuration of Np.
