Full-scale and laboratory tests approach to H(2)S-induced environmental fracture of pipeline steels and welds
Gas pipelines are found to experience occasional failures in wet H(2)S (sour) environments. The risk of failure in these environments arises because of local condensed water solutions, where corrosive reactions take place and, consequently, hydrogen entry into the metal is made possible. The object of the research was to compare results from different laboratory tests and full-scale tests on large diameter line pipes (24") under sour gas (H(2)S) conditions.
