Abstract

As the implosion of spherical capsules by the incoherent X-rays emitted by the walls of hot cavities seems to be a possible scheme for inertial confinement fusion, the condition for uniform capsule illumination has been studied as a function of the distribution of the X-ray sources. The cases of both thick and thin emitters have been considered and the effects of different modes for the source distribution have been studied for spherical and elliptical cavities with axisymmetric distributions. Simple criteria to produce uniformity are given.
