Uniaxial creep behaviour of a 2D Al(2)O(3)-SiC ceramic composite under vacuumFunded under: JRC-ADVMAT 1C
The long-term mechanical properties of ceramic matrix composites have rarely been investigated. In particular, very few attempts have been made to generate uniaxial creep data, mainly due to experimental difficulties. The material of this study is a 2D Al(2)O(3)-fibre fabric embedded in a CVI-deposited SiC-matrix, produced by SEP. In order to study the intrinsic material behaviour, mechanical testing is performed under UHV conditions. A number of experimental results, and their fit to a simple phenomenological model, are presented.
