Investigation into the metrological needs of small and medium enterprises in the manufacturing sectors
The investigation analysed and identified the specific metrological requirements that will have to be met by Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as a result of the imposition of international and company standards by their customers. The metrological factors identified were not unique to one Member State but shared a commonality with those of SMEs in other Member States; in many cases the customers or end users were large multi-national corporations with operations in a number of Member States. Proposals are submitted for a comparative study of measurement uncertainty and technology levels in SMEs in the Community as a basis for developing strategies for improving their performance and hence their competitiveness in the market place.
