Abstract

This paper presents the design concepts of a Nb(3)Sn wind and react (W/R) magnet, wound with a cable-in-conduit (CIC) conductor. The magnet is designed to operate at approximately 6 kA, generating a maximum field of 12 T over a 0.6 m bore. The design of the forced-flow-cooled CIC conductor, the winding principles, the heat exchanger effect in the magnet, and the stress analysis on the coil and conductor are reported and discussed. Tests on this magnet are planned for March 1993 in the Sultan Test Facility.
