Data protection and confidentiality in health informatics : Handling health data in Europe in the futureFunded under: FP2-AIM 1
The AIM conference examined the present situation, the trends in and the needs for data protection in health care informatics. Participants addressed the issues from medical, legal, technical and organisational points of view. Two main factors give cause for concern. Firstly it seems impossible to give a definitive answer to the question of whether the principles of data protection are being respected in the health information sector. Secondly there is a feeling that in the vast majority of cases the principles and recommendation have not been implemented properly, partly due to the indifference or in some cases the reluctance of the personnel involved.
