Metallo-organic chemistry of technetium : VII. X-ray structural analysis of tris(cyclopentadienyl)technetium(III), (eta(5)-C(5)H(5))(2)Tc(eta(1)-C(5)H(5)); dipole moments and charge distribution of the species (C(5)H(5))(3)M (M = V,Tc,Re)
The crystal structure of the diamagnetic tris(cyclopentadienyl)technetium(III) (1) has been solved by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound crystallises in the orthorhombic space group Pna2(l) with cell parameters a 1147.7(1). b 904.2(2). and c 1147.2(4) pm: rho(calc) 1.636 Mg/m3 for Z=4. Two rings are pi-bonded and the third one is sigma-bonded. The charge distribution in the molecule and the effective electric charge of the sigma-bonded carbon atom are discussed and compared with the homologous compounds of vanadium and rhenium.
