Long-term neurotoxic effects of paint solvents
This report analyses the exposure of painters during their working lives to a variety of solvents in liquid and vapour form, and at a wide range of concentration levels. Questions considered include: - Has the existence of a chronic, pre-senile dementia due to cumulative exposure to paint solvents been substantiated? - If so, is it due to a single solvent or to a specific group of solvents? - Has sufficient attention been given to possible impurities, such as benzene or n-hexane in commercial white spirit? - Are symptoms due to inhalation of vapour, or to skin contact, or to a combination of both?
