High energy intermultiplet transitions in antiferromagnetic USb have been sought using the HET and MARI spectrometers at the Rutherford-Appleton Laboratory. The large spin-orbit and crystal field interactions and the hybridisation of the 5f electrons in the UX rock-salt structure compounds makes investigation of these transitions more difficult than for the rare earth elements. No unambiguous intermultiplet transitions have been observed in these systematic measurements for USb. Comparisons are made with recent measurements on UPd(3).
