Abstract

This paper compares C(44) elastic constant data measured for UO(2) at different temperatures using the inelastic neutron scattering technique and ultrasonics. The measurements confirm the C(44) softening between room temperature and the Néel temperature. This can be observed from the results obtained using both ultrasonics and neutron scattering. It is noted that the ultrasonic values are approximately 14% lower than the neutron derived values. The ultrasonic results are in good agreement with previous ultrasonic measurements of C(44) at room temperature.
