Remote sensing applied in management of less favoured areas and landscape- ecological mapping - Experiences from the JRC European collaborative programme
Since 1985 the European collaborative programme on remote sensing in land use planning and environmental protection has been carrying out joint studies on the application of remotely sensed data and geographical information systems in various types of rural landscapes and natural environments. These studies constitute the background for advancing some preliminary initiatives on the definition of and experimentation with a common European digital map describing the various types of landscapes and main landscape ecological patterns. Satellite imagery is to form the basis for the classification and mapping.
