Elaboration of regression equations to describe the transformation behaviour during thermomechanical rolling

In this project a hot deformation dilatometer was used in order to produce, prior to the austenite-ferrite transformation, an austenite condition that closely approximates to that obtained at the end of hot rolling in combination with normalising forming or thermomechanical treatment. CCT diagrams were prepared on the basis of the results, to document the transformation behaviour. Furthermore, a basis was created to enable mathematical estimation of the transformation behaviour for steels for which a CCT diagram is not available. To create a suitable database, 34 steels with different compositions and industrial applications were selected as test materials. The transformation behaviour is displayed in the form of cooling time-temperature-transformation (CTT) diagrams. The diagrams also contain details of the Ac(1) and Ac(3) temperatures, hardness, and composition of the transformation structure. A discussion is included of how a CCT diagram, with details of the hardness and composition of the transformation structure, can be elaborated on the basis of regression equations for any particular steel whose chemical composition lies within the range investigated here. In doing so it is possible to assume alternatively either a thermomechanical or a normalising forming treatment.
