Plasma equilibrium and stationary flows in axisymmetric systems - Part III
The problem of the importance of poloidal flows for the behaviour of plasma in axisymmetric systems has been widely discussed for many years. The current report presents the results of efforts to construct programs to enable the solution of the extended Grad-Shafranov-Schlüter equation (EGSS) with stationary flows, in a realistic situation relevant to the JET operating conditions. A mathematical model of the plasma flow equilibrium has been elaborated, asymptotic properties of the solution near the magnetic axis have been determined and boundary conditions at the magnetic axis specified for the general case. A procedure giving solutions of the Bernouilli equation has been developed and the problem of bifurcation due to multiple solutions considered.
