Refurbishing of a hot cell for non-destructive testing
The alpha,gamma-hot cell facility of the European Institute for Transuranium Elements in Karlsruhe, Germany, had to be modified in order to accommodate full-size LWR fuel rods for non-destructive testing and to comply with new safety regulations concerning the alpha-contamination level in beta, gamma cells. The paper describes details of the refurbishing operation and lists the technical possibilities for fuel rod analysis of the new installation.
