The key issues facing the electricity systems of developing countries
This report analyses the work of all COPED (Cooperative Programme on Energy and Development) network centres and includes country and regional studies prepared by these centres. Major developments in the electricity systems of industrialised countries relating to ownership, regulation, technology and the environment are discussed. Analytical summaries of the present situation and major issues in the electricity systems of Africa, Asia and Latin Amercia are provided. While the issues take very different forms in the different regions of the developing world, the major questions concern further electrification, financial constraints, technological problems and, to a lesser extent, the environment.
