Quality control for low and medium active waste
This progress report aims to identify and evaluate the optimisation and validation of sampling procedures. In particular, the homogeneities of several radionuclides, measured by different analytical procedures in two real cement-embedded wastes, are compared. The evaluation of homogeneity is by means of statistical criteria, as a function of the radial and longitudinal dimensions. The conclusions are contradictory. In the same study frame, analytical procedures are proposed concerning Sr-90, Pu-241, C-14 and H-3 determinations. Analysis according to non-destructive procedures for alpha and beta long-lived emitter determinations are proposed, and the results from the first calibrations are presented. The interactions between gamma rays and organic embedding matrices like bitumen were also studied.
